EVAP Canister Purge Valve Inspection

WARNING:

If vacuum is applied using your mouth, there is a risk of inhaling harmful fuel vapor.

Be sure to use a hand vacuum pump to apply vacuum.

1) With ignition switch turned OFF, disconnect connector and vacuum hoses from canister purge valve.
2) Remove engine cover. Air Cleaner Assembly Removal and Installation
3) Remove EVAP canister purge valve from intake manifold.
4) Check resistance between two terminals of EVAP canister purge valve.

If resistance is as specified, proceed to next operation check. If not, replace EVAP canister purge valve.

22 - 26 ohms at 20 °C (68 °F)






5) Check EVAP canister purge valve for operation using special tool as follows.

WARNING:
If vacuum is applied by sucking at the valve, there is a risk of inhaling harmful fuel vapor that may present inside the valve.

Be sure to use a hand vacuum pump to apply vacuum.

NOTE:
If too high a vacuum is applied, the EVAP canister purge valve may be damaged.

Do not exceed a vacuum of -86 kPa (-12.47 psi).

Special Tool

(A): 09917-47011

a) With connector disconnected, apply vacuum (-53 kPa (-7.69 psi) to -67 kPa (-9.72 psi)) to pipe (1). If vacuum can be applied, go to next step. If vacuum can not be applied, replace EVAP canister purge valve.
b) In this state, connect 12 V-battery to EVAP canister purge valve terminals. If vacuum can not be applied, EVAP canister purge valve is in good condition.
If applied, replace EVAP canister purge valve.





6) Install EVAP canister purge valve to intake manifold.
7) Connect connector and vacuum hoses to canister purge valve.
8) Install engine cover. Air Cleaner Assembly Removal and Installation
