Front Brake Pad Removal and Installation
Front Brake Pad Removal and Installation
Front Brake Components
NOTE:
Failure to take proper precautions during brake pad removal may cause damage to the brake flexible hose and/or the brake piston.
- Be careful not to damage the brake flexible hose during brake pad removal.
- Avoid depressing the brake pedal during the brake pad removal procedure to prevent the brake piston from being forced out of the cylinder.
NOTE:
Replace all the front brake pads at the same time even if any brake pad needs to be replaced.
Removal
Front Brake Pad On-Vehicle Inspection
1) Hoist vehicle and remove front wheel. Removal and Replacement
2) Remove front brake caliper pin bolts (1).
3) Remove front brake caliper (1) from front brake caliper carrier (2).
NOTE: - If the removed brake caliper (1) is left hung by the brake hose, the brake hose may be damaged due to the tension caused by the caliper's weight.
Hang a removed brake caliper with a wire hook (4) or the like to relieve the brake hose of the tension.
- Avoid depressing the brake pedal during the brake pad removal procedure to prevent the brake piston from being forced out of the cylinder.
4) Check for leakage of brake fluid when removing brake pads and repair brake caliper if leakage is found.
5) Remove brake pads (3) and pad springs (5) from front brake caliper carrier (2).
Installation
Front Brake Pad Inspection
Front Brake Caliper Inspection
1) Apply brake grease included in brake pad set to hatched areas "A" in pad springs (1) and install pad springs to front brake caliper carrier (2).
2) Install wear indicator (2) to arrow position of each inside brake pad (1).
3) Apply brake grease in brake pad set to hatched area "A" between brake pad (2) and antinoise shim (1).
4) Install brake pad shims and brake pads.
5) Install front brake caliper (2) and tighten front brake caliper pin bolts (1) to specified torque.
NOTE:
If the flexible hose is twisted, the hose will be damaged.
If the hose is twisted, reinstall it being careful not to let it get twisted.
Tightening torque
Front brake caliper pin bolt (a): 34 Nm (3.5 kgf-m, 25.0 lbf-ft)
6) Install front wheel. Removal and Replacement
7) Check that brake system operates properly after installation.
