Removal and Installation




Driver Air Bag (Inflator) Module Removal and Installation

WARNING:

Failure to take proper precautions when performing service on the driver air bag (inflator) module can result in personal injury or non-activation of the air bag in the event of a collision.

- Never attempt to disassemble or repair an air bag (inflator) module. If any abnormality is found, replace the module with a new one.
- Carefully read Precautions for Air Bag System Service Precautions for Air Bag System Service

and Precautions for Disposal of Air Bag and Seat Belt Pretensioner Precautions for Disposal of Air Bag and Seat Belt Pretensioner
and follow all of the instructions provided.


NOTE:

An air bag (inflator) module that has been dropped may not operate correctly.

Never use an air bag (inflator) module that has been dropped. Replace the module with a new one.

NOTE:

Refer to Repair and Inspection Required after Accident Repair and Inspection Required after Accident
before replacing deployed air bag.


Removal

1) Disable air bag system. Disabling Air Bag System
2) Remove mounting bolts (2) of driver air bag (inflator) module at both sides of steering wheel (1) using TORX� wrench (T30).





3) Disconnect driver air bag (inflator) module connector (2) as shown in figure.
a) Release lock (1).
b) Disconnect connector with lock released.





4) Remove driver air bag (inflator) module from steering wheel.

Installation

Driver Air Bag (Inflator) Module Inspection

Reverse removal procedure, noting the following points.

- Lock connector for air bag (inflator) module securely.
- Do not pinch or protrude harness.











- Tighten driver air bag (inflator) module mounting bolts to specified torque.

Tightening torque
Driver air bag (inflator) module mounting bolt (a): 9 Nm (0.9 kgf-m, 6.5 lbf-ft)





- Enable air bag system. Enabling Air Bag System
