ESP (R) Hydraulic Unit / Control Module Assembly Removal and Installation

NOTE:

- Performing certain prohibited service operations will affect the original performance of the ESP (R) hydraulic unit / control module assembly.
Do not perform the following prohibited service operations:

- Do not disassemble the ESP (R) hydraulic unit / control module assembly.
- Do not loosen the blind plug.
- Do not remove the motor.
- Regarding ESP (R) hydraulic unit / control module assembly removal and installation, confirm specified torque and do not use impact tool to avoid damage.
- Use care not to allow dust to enter ESP (R) hydraulic unit / control module.
- Do not place ESP (R) hydraulic unit / control module on its side or upside down. Handling it in inappropriate way will affect its original performance.
- Do not give an impact to hydraulic unit.

- Brake fluid is extremely damaging to painted surfaces.
If brake fluid contacts a painted surface, immediately wipe it off and flush the surface thoroughly with water.
- The bracket of the ESP (R) hydraulic unit / control module assembly may has some burrs at the edge and may damage or deform the bushing, resulting in abnormal operation of the ESP (R) system.
Be careful not to scratch bushings with the burr of the bracket when removing / installing the ESP (R) hydraulic unit / control module assembly from / to the bracket.

Removal

1) Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
2) Disconnect ESP (R) hydraulic unit / control module assembly connector (1) by pulling down the lock lever (2).

3) Loosen flare nuts (1) using special tool and disconnect brake pipes (2) from ESP (R) hydraulic unit / control module assembly (3).
Special Tool

(A): 09950-78220

NOTE:
Put bleeder plug cap or the like onto pipe to prevent fluid from spilling.

4) Remove or loosen ESP (R) hydraulic unit / control module assembly nuts (1) and remove ESP (R) hydraulic unit / control module assembly (3) from actuator bracket (2) using care not to scratch bushings (5) with the burr the bracket.

NOTE:
If ESP (R) hydraulic unit / control module assembly nuts are not removed, loosen nuts by the end of bolt (4) as shown in figure.

Installation

Reverse removal procedure, noting the following points.

- Be careful not to scratch bushings with the burr of the bracket.
- Tighten brake pipe flare nuts using special tool and ESP (R) hydraulic unit / control module assembly nuts to specified torque.
Special Tool

(A): 09950-78220

Tightening torque
Brake pipe flare nut (M10) (a): 16 Nm (1.6 kgf-m, 12.0 lbf-ft)
Brake pipe flare nut (M12) (b): 19 Nm (1.9 kgf-m, 14.0 lbf-ft)
ESP (R) hydraulic unit / control module assembly nut (c): 8.0 Nm (0.8 kgf-m, 6.0 lbf-ft)

- Bleed air from brake system. (Blake fluid replacement)
- Check for leakage of brake fluid and perform ESP (R) hydraulic unit operation check. (ESP (R) Hydraulic Unit Operation Check)
