P0340

DTC P0340

DTC Detecting Condition and Trouble Area

Circuit Diagram

System Description

The CMP sensor located on the cylinder head consists of a signal generator (magnetic sensor) and signal rotor (fixed to intake camshaft).

The signal generator generates reference signal by teeth on the signal rotor which turns together with the camshaft.

Reference Signal

The CMP sensor generates 6 pulses of signals each of which has a different waveform length while the camshaft makes one full rotation. Pinout Values and Diagnostic Parameters

Based on CMP sensor signal and CKP sensor signal, ECM judges which cylinder piston is in the compression stroke.

DTC Confirmation Procedure

NOTE:

- Be sure to troubleshoot first unexpected DTCs previously detected in "DTC Confirmation Procedure".
- Confirm that the following conditions are met in this "DTC Confirmation Procedure".

- Engine speed <= 2,000 rpm

- Battery voltage >= 11 V

- DTC P0335 is not detected.

1) Run engine at idle speed for 1 min.

DTC Troubleshooting

1. Was "Engine and Emission Control System Check" performed?
YES
Go to Step 2.
NO
Go to Engine and Emission Control System Check Engine and Emission Control System Check.
2. DTC check
Check DTC.
Is there DTC(s) other than P0340?
YES
Go to troubleshooting for applicable DTC(s).
NO
Go to Step 3.
3. CMP sensor power supply circuit check
Confirm that ignition mode of keyless push start system is in "OFF".
Disconnect connector from CMP sensor.
Check for proper terminal connection to CMP sensor connector.
If connections are OK, push engine switch to change ignition mode to "ON".
Check that "A1" circuit is battery voltage.
Is it good condition?
YES
Go to Step 4.
NO
Repair or replace defective wire harness.
4. CMP sensor signal circuit and ground circuit check
Push engine switch to change ignition mode to "OFF".
Disconnect "C01" and "E01" connectors.
Check for proper terminal connection to "C01" and "E01" connectors.
If connections are OK, check the following points.
Resistance of "A2" and "A3" circuits: less than 1
Resistance between "A2" circuit and ground: infinity
Resistance between "A2" circuit terminal and each terminal at CMP sensor connector: infinity
Resistance between "A3" circuit terminal and each terminal at CMP sensor connector: infinity
Voltage of "A2" and "A3": 0 - 1 V with ignition mode of keyless push start system in "ON".
Are they in good condition?
YES
Go to Step 5.
NO
Repair or replace defective wire harness.
5. CMP sensor and signal rotor check
Check CMP sensor and signal rotor. CMP Sensor Inspection
Are they in good condition?
YES
Replace ECM and recheck DTC. Service and Repair
NO
Replace CMP sensor. CMP Sensor Removal and Installation
