Parking Brake System: Adjustments





PARKING BRAKE: PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM: ADJUSTMENT

1. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL

(a) Pull the parking brake lever firmly.

(b) Release the parking brake lock, and return the parking brake lever to its off position.

(c) Slowly pull the parking brake lever all the way up, and count the number of clicks.

Parking brake lever travel:

6 to 9 clicks at 200 N (20 kgf, 45 lbf)

2. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

3. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL

(a) Completely release the parking brake lever.

(b) Loosen the lock nut and the adjusting nut to completely release the parking brake cable.

(c) Fully depress the brake pedal 3 to 5 times with the engine stopped.

(d) Turn the adjusting nut until the parking brake lever travel is corrected to within the specified range.

Parking brake lever travel:

6 to 9 clicks at 200 N (20 kgf, 45 lbf)

(e) Using a wrench or an equivalent tool, hold the adjusting nut and tighten the lock nut.

Torque : 6.0 Nm (61 kgf-cm, 53 in-lbf)

(f) Operate the parking brake lever 3 to 4 times, and check the parking brake lever travel.

(g) Check whether the parking brake drags or not.

4. INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT

(a) When operating the parking brake lever, check that the brake warning light illuminates.

OK:

The brake warning light always illuminates at the first click.
