Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: Testing and Inspection

SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: SPIRAL CABLE: INSPECTION

1. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) If there are any defects as mentioned below, replace the spiral cable with sensor with a new one:

Scratches, cracks, dents or chips in the connector or spiral cable.

(b) Check the spiral cable with sensor.





(1) Set the spiral cable to the center position Installation.

(2) After setting the spiral cable to the center position, rotate the spiral cable 2.5 times clockwise and measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

NOTICE:
Do not turn the spiral cable by the airbag wire harness.

Standard Resistance:





*1: w/ Shift Paddle Switch

*2: w/ Cruise Control System

If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.

(3) After setting the spiral cable to the center position, rotate the spiral cable 2.5 times clockwise. Then, while rotating the spiral cable 5 times counterclockwise, measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

NOTICE:
Do not turn the spiral cable by the airbag wire harness.

Standard Resistance:





*1: w/ Shift Paddle Switch

*2: w/ Cruise Control System

If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.

NOTICE:
As the spiral cable may break, do not rotate the spiral cable more than the specified amount.
