SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: SPIRAL CABLE: REMOVAL

1. PRECAUTION

CAUTION:
Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing Service Precautions.

NOTICE:
* Do not replace the spiral cable with sensor when the ignition switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.
* Do not rotate the spiral cable when the ignition switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.
* Make sure the steering wheel is installed and centered before rotating the steering angle sensor when performing steering angle sensor operation inspections (inspecting for abnormal noise, diagnosis inspections, etc.).
* Do not remove the steering angle sensor from the spiral cable with sensor.

2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

NOTICE:
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization.

3. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY

4. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER Removal

5. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Pull the lock slider in the direction indicated by the arrow to release the connector lock and disconnect the airbag connector (yellow colored) from the spiral cable with sensor.

NOTICE:
When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

(b) Disconnect the 3 connectors from the spiral cable with sensor.

(c) Detach the 3 claws and remove the spiral cable with sensor.





NOTICE:
* Do not replace the spiral cable with sensor when the ignition switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.
* Do not rotate the spiral cable when the ignition switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.
* Make sure the steering wheel is installed and centered before rotating the steering angle sensor when performing steering angle sensor operation inspections (inspecting for abnormal noise, diagnosis inspections, etc.).
* Do not remove the steering angle sensor from the spiral cable with sensor.
