SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: STEERING PAD: REMOVAL
1. PRECAUTION
CAUTION:
Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing Service Precautions.
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
NOTICE:
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization.
3. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER
(a) Apply protective tape around the cover.

(b) Using a screwdriver, detach the claw.
HINT
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
(c) Detach the guide and remove the cover.
4. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER (w/o Cruise Control System)
(a) Apply protective tape around the cover.

(b) Using a screwdriver, detach the claw.
HINT
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
(c) Detach the guide and remove the cover.
5. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER (w/ Cruise Control System)
(a) Apply protective tape around the cover.

(b) Using a screwdriver, detach the claw.
HINT
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
(c) Detach the guide and remove the cover.
6. REMOVE STEERING PAD ASSEMBLY
(a) Using a screwdriver, push in the 2 springs to detach the 2 pins.

NOTICE:
Do not drop the steering pad.
(b) Pull out the steering pad from the steering wheel and support the steering pad with one hand.
NOTICE:
When removing the steering pad, do not pull the airbag wire harness.
(c) Pull the 2 lock plates to release the 2 connector locks.

(d) Disconnect the 2 airbag connectors from the steering pad.
NOTICE:
When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
(e) Disconnect the horn wire harness connector from the steering pad contact plate and remove the steering pad.
CAUTION:
When storing the steering pad, keep the airbag deployment side facing upward.
