P0013
2AR-FE ENGINE CONTROL: SFI SYSTEM: P0013: Camshaft Position "B" Actuator Circuit / Open (Bank 1)
P0013 - Camshaft Position "B" Actuator Circuit / Open (Bank 1)
DESCRIPTION
- This DTC is designed to detect opens or shorts in the camshaft timing oil control valve circuit. If the camshaft timing oil control valve duty cycle is excessively high or low while the engine is running, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store the DTC.
- The VVT (Variable Valve Timing) system adjusts the intake and exhaust valve timing to improve driveability. The engine oil pressure turns the camshaft timing gear to adjust the valve timing. The camshaft timing oil control valve is a solenoid valve and switches the engine oil line. The valve moves when the ECM applies 12 volts to the solenoid. The ECM changes the energizing time of the solenoid (duty cycle) in accordance with the camshaft position, crankshaft position, throttle position, etc.
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
This DTC is designed to detect opens or shorts in the camshaft timing oil control valve circuit. If the camshaft timing oil control valve duty cycle is excessively high or low while the engine is running, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store the DTC.

TYPICAL ENABLING CONDITIONS
TYPICAL MALFUNCTION THRESHOLDS
COMPONENT OPERATING RANGE
CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
3. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC operation).
4. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
5. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
6. Wait 5 seconds.
7. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Code.
8. Read the pending DTCs.
HINT
- If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.
10. Input the DTC: P0013.
11. Check the DTC judgment result.
HINT
- If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.
- If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
12. If the judgment result is INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN and no pending DTC is output, perform a universal trip and check for permanent DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
HINT
- If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT
Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
PROCEDURE
1. CHECK FOR DTC (DTC P0013)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Clear the DTCs after recording the freeze frame data and DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
(c) Turn the ignition switch off.
(d) Start the engine and allow it to idle. Then check for DTCs.
(e) Check that P0013 is not output.
OK:
P0013 is not output.
NG -- INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY
OK -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS Check for Intermittent Problems
2. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY
(a) Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly Inspection.
NG -- REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE - ECM)
(a) Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector.
(b) Disconnect the ECM connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE ECM Removal
