AIR CONDITIONING: AIR CONDITIONING UNIT: REMOVAL
CAUTION:
Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing Service Precautions.
HINT
Use the same procedure for both the RH and LH sides.
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
Wait for at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag from working.
2. DISCHARGE REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM Service and Repair
3. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT Service and Repair
4. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM HEAD CAP Removal
5. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY LH Removal
6. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY RH Removal
7. REMOVE HOOD TO COWL TOP SEAL Removal
8. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal
9. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER LH Removal
10. REMOVE FRONT WIPER MOTOR AND LINK Removal
11. REMOVE FRONT AIR SHUTTER SEAL RH Removal
12. REMOVE OUTER COWL TOP PANEL Removal
13. DISCONNECT SUCTION TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the bolt.
(b) Turn the hook connector clockwise and disconnect the suction tube.
(c) Remove the O-ring from the suction tube.
NOTICE:
Seal the openings of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent moisture and foreign matter from entering.
14. DISCONNECT LIQUID TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Disconnect the liquid tube.
(b) Remove the O-ring from the liquid tube.
NOTICE:
Seal the opening of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent moisture and foreign matter from entering.
15. DISCONNECT HEATER WATER OUTLET HOSE A (FROM HEATER UNIT)
(a) Using pliers, grip the claws of the clip, slide the clip and disconnect the heater water outlet hose from the heater unit.
16. DISCONNECT HEATER WATER HOSE INLET A
(a) Using pliers, grip the claws of the clip, slide the clip and disconnect the heater water inlet hose from the heater unit.
17. TABLE OF BOLTS, SCREWS AND NUTS Removal
18. SEPARATE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP RH Removal
19. SEPARATE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH Removal
20. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH Removal

23. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY Removal

42. DISCONNECT AIR MIX DAMPER CONTROL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal
43. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE BOX Removal
44. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER TRAY Removal
45. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX Removal
46. REMOVE NO. 2 RADIO BRACKET Removal
47. REMOVE NO. 1 RADIO BRACKET Removal
48. SEPARATE HOOD LOCK CONTROL LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal
49. SEPARATE ANTENNA CORD SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal
50. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL Removal
51. POSITION FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
52. REMOVE STEERING PAD Removal
53. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY Removal
54. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN LOWER COVER Removal
55. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN UPPER COVER Removal
56. REMOVE COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY Removal
57. DISCONNECT POWER STEERING ECU Removal
58. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB REINFORCEMENT Removal
59. REMOVE COLUMN HOLE COVER SILENCER SHEET Removal
60. SEPARATE STEERING SLIDING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Place matchmarks on the sliding yoke of the steering intermediate shaft and the power steering link.
(b) Loosen bolt A, remove bolt B and separate the steering yoke.
61. REMOVE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER PUSH ROD CLEVIS Removal
62. REMOVE BRAKE PEDAL SUPPORT Removal
63. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY Removal
64. REMOVE NO. 6 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT ASSEMBLY
(a) Disengage the 3 claws and remove the heater to register duct.
65. REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Disengage the 5 claws and remove the defroster nozzle.
66. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 AIR DUCT
(a) Disengage the 2 claws and remove the air duct.
67. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 AIR DUCT
(a) Disengage the 4 claws and remove the air duct.
68. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Disengage the 3 clamps.
(b) Remove the bolt and separate the PTC heater wire.
(c) Remove bolt, screw and nut and remove the instrument panel brace.
69. REMOVE REAR NO. 3 AIR DUCT
(a) Disengage the 4 claws and remove the air duct.
70. DISCONNECT DRAIN COOLER HOSE
(a) Disconnect the drain hose.
71. SEPARATE MAIN BODY ECU
(a) Disconnect the 5 connectors and 3 clamps.
(b) Remove the 2 bolts and separate the main body ECU.
72. SEPARATE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
(a) Remove the bolt.
(b) Disconnect the connectors and separate the connector holder.
(c) Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire.
(d) Disconnect the connectors and clamps.
73. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT (for Manual Transaxle)
(a) Remove the 3 bolts and the nut.
(b) Remove the 9 bolts and remove the instrument panel reinforcement together with the air conditioning unit.
(c) Remove the 3 screws and the air conditioning unit.
74. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT (for Automatic Transaxle)
(a) Remove the 3 bolts and the nut.
(b) Remove the 8 bolts and remove the instrument panel reinforcement together with the air conditioning unit.
(c) Remove the 3 screws and the air conditioning unit.
75. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the screw.
(b) Disengage the claw and remove the air conditioning amplifier as shown in the illustration.
76. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT
(a) Remove the 3 screws and the air conditioning unit.
