Tachometer Malfunction
DESCRIPTION
The combination meter assembly controls the tachometer in accordance with engine speed signals from the ECM through the CAN communication system.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
PROCEDURE
1. CONFIRM DTC OUTPUT (CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM)
(a) Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch on and turn the tester on.
(c) Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(d) Clear the DTC Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(e) Recheck for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
Result:
B -- GO TO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART
A -- Continue to next step.
2. CONFIRM DTC OUTPUT (ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM)
(a) Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch on and turn the tester on.
(c) Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(d) Clear the DTC Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(e) Recheck for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
Result:
B -- GO TO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART
A -- Continue to next step.
3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (TACHOMETER)
(a) Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch on and turn the tester on.
(c) Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Active Test" Meter / Gauge System.
Body Electrical / Combination meter / Active Test::
OK:
Engine speed displayed on the tester is approximately the same as that of the tachometer reading.
NG -- REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (TACHOMETER)
(a) Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Engine start and turn the tester on.
(c) Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Data List" Meter / Gauge System.
Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List::
OK:
Engine speed displayed on the tester is approximately the same as that displayed on the combination meter.
NOTICE: Determine whether the value displayed on the tester is within the acceptable range by referring to reference values described in "ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION" On-Vehicle Inspection.
