DTC B1822/55 - Short to GND in Front Driver Side - Side Squib Circuit
DTC B1823/55 - Short to B+ in Front Driver Side - Side Squib Circuit
DESCRIPTION
- The side squib (driver side) circuit consists of the center airbag sensor and the front seat with adjuster frame LH (side squib (driver side)).
- This circuit instructs the SRS to deploy when deployment conditions are met.
- These DTCs are recorded when a malfunction is detected in the side squib (driver side) circuit.

PROCEDURE
1. CHECK FOR DTC
(a) Proceed to each step according to DTC readings.
(1) If using the Techstream (read the 5-digit of DTC):
Using the Techstream, check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
Result:
(2) If not using the Techstream (read the 2-digit of DTC):
Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.

E -- CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SIDE SQUIB (DRIVER SIDE) CIRCUIT)
D -- CHECK FLOOR WIRE (TO B+)
C -- CHECK FLOOR WIRE (TO GROUND)
B -- CHECK FLOOR WIRE (OPEN)
A -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT)
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor.
(d) Disconnect the connector from the front seat airbag LH (side squib (driver side)).
(e) Release the activation prevention mechanism built into connector "B" Diagnosis System.
(f) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:
OK -- CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
3. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (OPEN)
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor.
(d) Disconnect the connector from the front seat airbag LH (side squib (driver side)).
(e) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:
OK -- CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
4. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (TO GROUND)
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor.
(d) Disconnect the connector from the front seat airbag LH (side squib (driver side)).
(e) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:
OK -- CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
5. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (TO B+)
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor.
(d) Disconnect the connector from the front seat airbag LH (side squib (driver side)).
(e) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(g) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:
(h) Before proceeding to the next step, perform the following procedures.
(1) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(2) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
OK -- CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
6. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SIDE SQUIB (DRIVER SIDE) CIRCUIT)
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor.
(d) Disconnect the connector from the front seat airbag LH (side squib (driver side)).
(e) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(g) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:
(h) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(i) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(j) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:
(k) Release the activation prevention mechanism built into connector "B" Diagnosis System.
(l) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.
7. REPLACE FRONT SEAT WITH ADJUSTER FRAME ASSEMBLY LH (SIDE SQUIB (DRIER SIDE))
(a) Replace the front seat with adjuster frame LH (side squib (driver side)) and connect the connector Diagnosis System.
HINT: Perform the inspection using parts from a normal vehicle if possible.
(b) Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor.
(c) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(d) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(e) Clear the DTCs stored in memory DTC Check / Clear.
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(g) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(h) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
OK:
DTC 55 is not output.
HINT: Codes other than code 55 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.
NG -- REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
OK -- END
8. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
(a) Restore the released activation prevention mechanism of connector "B" to the original condition.
(b) Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor.
(c) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(d) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(e) Clear the DTCs stored in memory DTC Check / Clear.
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(g) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(h) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
OK:
DTC B1820 is not output.
HINT: Codes other than code B1820 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

NG -- REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
9. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
(a) Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor.
(b) Using a service wire, connect S11-1 (SFD+) and S11-2 (SFD-) of connector "C".
NOTICE: Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting.
(c) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(d) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(e) Clear the DTCs stored in memory DTC Check / Clear.
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(g) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(h) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
OK:
DTC B1821, B1822 or B1823 is not output.
HINT: Codes other than code B1821, B1822 or B1823 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.
(i) Before proceeding to the next step, perform the following procedures.
(1) Disconnect the service wire from connector "C".

OK -- Continue to next step.
10. CHECK FRONT SEAT WITH ADJUSTER FRAME ASSEMBLY LH (SIDE SQUIB (DRIVER SIDE))
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Connect the connector to the front seat with adjuster frame assembly LH (side squib (driver side)).
(d) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(e) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(f) Clear the DTCs stored in memory DTC Check / Clear.
(g) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(h) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(i) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
OK:
DTC B1820, B1821, B1822 or B1823 is not output.
HINT: Codes other than code B1820, B1821, B1822 or B1823 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.
