Starter Noise Diagnosis

Diagnostic Instructions

Circuit/System Testing

1. Inspect the starter motor mounting bolts for proper torque refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications ([1][2]Specifications)
2. Remove the starter motor.
3. Inspect the flywheel for the following:

* Loose flywheel bolts
* Chipped gear teeth
* Missing gear teeth
* Bent flywheel

• If not within specifications, secure the flywheel bolts or replace the flywheel.

• If all inspections were within specification, replace the starter motor.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
