Rear Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair




Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Replacement

Special Tools
* KM-328-B Remover
* KM-6623 Installer
* KM-6624 Remover

Removal Procedure




1. For vehicles with manual transmission, remove the flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement (Service and Repair).
2. For vehicles with automatic transmission, remove the drive disc. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement (Service and Repair).

Note: Do not allow the encoder to come into contact with external magnetic fields, do not bring into contact with metal swarf, do not damage rubberized encoder track mechanically, do not drop.

3. Remove the encoder (4) out of the crankshaft.
4. Disconnect the crankshaft pulse pick-up (2) from the pulse pick-up bracket.
5. Remove the bolt (1).
6. Remove the plastic ring on the pulse pick-up bracket (3).





Note:
* Only make a hole at the areas at the 5 o'clock and 7 o'clock (1) positions as these are the only areas where there is a cavity behind the seal ring.
* The diameter of the hole must not exceed 2 mm. Otherwise, the bolt of KM-6624 will not be able to grip.

7. Use a suitable tool, such as a scribe (2), to make a hole in the seal ring.
Position the scribe at the outer edge of the seal ring.
8. Remove the seal ring.

* Attach KM-6624 (1) to the seal ring. Tighten the bolt.
* Attach KM-328-B to KM-6624 .
* Tap out the seal ring (1) with KM-328-B (2) together with KM-6624 .

Installation Procedure




1. Position the new seal ring.

* Position the seal ring in such a way that the pulse pick-up bracket is over the corresponding cut-out on the cylinder block

Note: Do not press in the seal ring all the way.

* Slide the seal ring over the crankshaft. Push on until it is flush and sits evenly in the cylinder block.

2. Install the seal ring with KM-6623 (1).

* Tighten the 3 bolts (2).
* Press the seal ring all the way in.
* Install the bolt (3).

3. Remove KM-6623 .
Remove the 3 bolts.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

4. Install the crankshaft pulse pick-up to the pulse pick-up bracket.

Tighten the bolt to 5 Nm (44 lb in).

5. Place the encoder on crankshaft.
6. For vehicles with automatic transmission, install the drive disc. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. For vehicles with manual transmission, fit the flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement (Service and Repair).
