Shift Linkage: Adjustments
Shift Control Linkage Adjustment
1. Position the shift lever in PARK.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair) .
3. Remove the front closeout panel. Refer to Floor Panel Tunnel Panel Replacement - Front (Automatic Transmission) (Floor Panel Tunnel Panel Replacement - Front (Automatic Transmission))Floor Panel Tunnel Panel Replacement - Front (Manual Transmission) (Floor Panel Tunnel Panel Replacement - Front (Manual Transmission)) .
4. Slide the shift control linkage adjustment lock cover (1) back exposing the locking tab.
5. Lift the shift control linkage adjustment locking tab (1).
6. The shift control linkage rod (3) and rod end (2) are free to slide to proper adjustment. Ensure the shift lever and transmission are both in the PARK position.
7. Depress the shift control linkage adjustment locking tab (1) to lock the adjustment.
8. Slide the shift control linkage adjustment lock cover (1) over the locking tab.
9. Install the front closeout panel. Refer to Floor Panel Tunnel Panel Replacement - Front (Automatic Transmission) (Floor Panel Tunnel Panel Replacement - Front (Automatic Transmission))Floor Panel Tunnel Panel Replacement - Front (Manual Transmission) (Floor Panel Tunnel Panel Replacement - Front (Manual Transmission)) .
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Inspect the operation of the starting system with the shift lever in each position. The engine should only crank when the lever is in the PARK or NEUTRAL position.
