Technical Description, Service Programme
SERVICE PROGRAMME
Important
Turn the key to LOCK or remove it whenever the car is not being used. In OFF position, the battery will discharge within a couple of hours.
General
This section contains our recommendations for pre-delivery service and maintenance service.
In petrol-engined cars, the oil quality is calculated using an algorithm in the ECU (T8). Parameters for this algorithm include time, number of cold starts, number of crankshaft revolutions and distance travelled. The algorithm can recommend a change of oil between 10,000 and 30,000 km (Ww 20,000 km and US/CA 15,000 miles). For example, many cold starts and short journeys would incur more frequent oil changes than long journeys with a warm engine.
The driver is informed that it is time for service with a message shown on SID, "TIME FOR SERVICE". This message is shown once every day, irrespective of how many times the ignition is turned on, until it is zeroed. The algorithm in T8 will be zeroed at the same time.
The driver can see the condition of the oil on SID as a percentage shown on the display. The condition is given as 100% for new oil and then in a falling scale down to 0% for oil in bad condition. When the algorithm informs the driver that it is "Time for service", there is about 1,000 km left, corresponding to 3% oil quality, under similar driving conditions. The driver can also see how many days the system estimates are left until the next service. This can be used, for example, to have an oil change ahead of a long trip before the algorithm suggests it. The values gathered by the algorithm and the percentage grade of the oil are stored in a non-volatile memory in T8, which means it will remain in memory even when the battery power is cut. If the ECU must be changed, the values can be transferred to the new one with the diagnostic tool.
Messages
The following service messages can be displayed on SID.
Petrol engine
"TIME FOR SERVICE" is displayed first.
One of the following messages can be shown in the "Customer settings" submenu.
- Intermediate service (Algorithm dependent, can be shown between 10,000 and 30,000/20,000 km or 15,000 miles)
- Main service (mileage-dependent, the interval can be programmed using the diagnostic tool).
- Main and intermediate service (if criteria for both types of service coincide).
Note: The algorithm assumes that engine oil complying with Saab specifications is used.
Diesel engine
"TIME FOR SERVICE" (mileage-dependent). Cars with diesel engine have a fixed oil change interval. Refer to the respective service reports for intervals.
Note: Only engine oil complying with Saab specifications may be used.
Service programme
There are three different service programmes.
1. Europe, for the European countries.
2. Ww, for countries not covered by Europe of US/CA programmes.
3. US/CA, for USA and Canada.
Acceptance inspection and in-storage care
The car's specification must be checked after reception. The car must also be inspected for damage. Any deviations and defects must be reported using special procedures.
See also Acceptance inspection and Acceptance inspection form.
The car must subsequently be checked and cared for during the storage time to make sure it is kept in good condition awaiting its new owner.
See also In-storage car care and In storage car-care form.
Pre-delivery service
The customer will judge you as a business partner after the results. This is where the first contact when handing over the car is of great importance. So pay attention to small details such as oil or dirt stains, that the correct time is set on the clock and so on.
All inspection, check and adjustment points must be carried out conscientiously. Apart from this, unforeseeable defects may have been caused during transport and storage. These are to be regarded as repairs.
See also Pre-delivery service.
Note: A service schedule must be used for all service work to ensure that the correct service points are carried out for the mileage in question. Then carry out the work in accordance with the method description.
Note: The inspection of certain points and the replacement of consumable items that are subject to legal requirements should be carried out at the specified mileage only, unless they are defective beforehand.
