Adjusting the Fuel Gauge/Sensor

Adjusting The Fuel Gauge:

Adjusting the Fuel Gauge/Sensor

There are two different ways of adjusting the sensor/gauge, depending on the fault symptoms:whether the reading error is "equally large" from full tank to empty tank or whether the reading error occurs only at a certain level. Adjustment of the fuel level sensor offset or, alternatively, the fuel gauge reading, is possible.

Alternative 1. Gauge reading error across the whole scale.

1 Drain the fuel tank.
^ Read Value should be 0 litres.
2 Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
3 Add 10 litres of fuel to the tank.
4 Turn the ignition switch to ON.
5 Read value Tank Contents. Adjust Tank offset to the correct value.
6 Activate the fuel gauge and check that the gauge reading is correct at all the "breakpoints." Adjust the breakpoints if necessary. For breakpoints set at the works, see Adjustments "Adjusting the Fuel Gauge."
7 Clear diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.
^ Carry out a function check.
Is the function correct?
YES
The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
NO Go to Fault diagnosis, general, "Before changing a control module."

Alternative 2. Reading error at a certain level.

1 Activate the fuel gauge and check that the gauge reading is correct at all the "breakpoints." Adjust the breakpoints if necessary. For breakpoints set at the works, see "Adjustments" under "Fuel Gauge."
2 Clear diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.
^ Carry out a function check.
Is the function correct?
YES
