P1862, P1863
Solenoid for lock-up, SOLENOID LOCK-UP (SL), short circuit to ground.

Fault symptoms
No Lock-up function or Lock-up function defective.

Conditions
P1862: Short circuit to ground.
P1863: Short circuit to B+/Open circuit.

Diagnostic help
The status of the Lock-up solenoid can be ascertained with the diagnostics instrument.

Lock-up is activated (ON) in third and fourth gear.

The Lock-up solenoid can be activated with the diagnostics instrument.
- Activate "Solenoid Lock-up"






Diagnostic procedure

1 Check the control module output to the lock-up solenoid.
- Unplug connector Hi 6-3 by the battery tray.
- Connect a test lamp between pin 10 in the female connector and a good grounding point.
- Connect a diagnostic tool.
- Turn the ignition to the ON position.
- Activate "Solenoid Lock-up."
The lamp should go on.

All OK?
YES
Continue with step 2.
NO
Rectify the relevant lead and continue with step 4, final check.






2 Check the wiring harness from the 16-pin connector to the grommet in the gearbox.
Inspect for external damage to the wiring harness.

Is there any external damage?
YES
Rectify the damage and continue with step 4, final check.
NO
Continue with step 3.






3 Check the lead between the 16-pin connector and the lock-up solenoid.
- Plug in connector H16-3 by the battery tray.
- Remove the cover on the valve housing.
- Unplug the connector for the lock-up solenoid.
- Connect a test lamp between the connector pin and a good grounding point.
- Connect a diagnostic tool.
- Turn the ignition to the ON position.
- Activate "Solenoid Lock-up."
The lamp should go on.

All OK?
YES
Change the lock-up solenoid and continue with step
4, final check.
NO
Rectify the relevant lead between the connector for the lock-up solenoid and pin 10 in the 16-pin connector and continue with step 4, final check.






4 Final check
- Clear all diagnostic trouble codes in the system.
- Perform a driving cycle:
- Drive the car at varying loads and engine speeds for 5 minutes.
- Evaluate the driving cycle:
- Make sure the trouble code has not recurred.

Has the trouble code recurred?
YES
Continue with "Before changing a control module," see Fault diagnosis, general, "Before changing a control module." Tech 2 Scan Tool

NO
The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
