Solenoids. Open Circuit.

Fault symptoms
ABS warning lamp on. ABS not functioning.

Conditions
^ If no current is supplied to three or more of the valves.
^ If the control module's internal voltage relay is defective.
^ No current (+30 circuit) supplied to the control module (pins 17 and 18).

Diagnostic help
The solenoid valves can be activated using the diagnostic tool.
- Select "Activate".
- Select "Valves"
Select the valve from the submenu. The selected valve will be activated at a frequency of 1 Hz for about 30 s.

Diagnostic procedure
1. Checking The Fuse

^ Check that maxi fuse 2 (342a) is intact.

Is the function correct?

NO
Go to step 2

YES
Go to step 3

2. Checking The Fuse

Change the maxi fuse in question.
When repair is complete
Go to Step 8

3. Checking The +30 Power Supply





Unplug the connector

^ Control module. ABS (547)
Go to step 4

4. Checking The +30 Power Supply

Take a voltage reading.





^ Pin 17: control module ABS





^ B- (ground)

The value should be B+ (batt. voltage).

Checking the wiring harness.
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.

Is the function correct?

NO
Go to step 5

YES
Go to step 6

5. Rectifying The Lead





Rectify the open circuit in the lead between maxi fuse 2 (342a) and pin 17 of the control module.

When repair is complete
go to step 8

6. Checking The +30 Power Supply

Take a voltage reading.





^ Pin 18 control module ABS





^ B- (ground)

The value should be B+ (batt. voltage).

Checking the wiring harness.
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.

Is the function correct?

NO
Go to step

YES
Go to step

7. Rectifying The Lead





Rectify the open circuit in the lead between crimp connection J8 and pin 18 of the control module.

When repair is complete
go to step 8

8. Final Check





^ Clear the diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.





Carry out a drive cycle:

^ Drive the car at varying engine loads and engine rpm for five minutes.

Evaluate the drive cycle.





^ Check that the diagnostic trouble code has not recurred

Is the function correct?

NO
Go to step 12

YES
Go to step 11

9. Final Check

The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
Diagnosis is complete

10. Final Check

Diagnosis for this fault code is complete.
