Battery Voltage. Too Low

Fault symptoms
ABS warning lamp on. ABS not functioning.

Conditions
^ Battery voltage <9 V for more than 0.5 s.
^ Wheel speed over 6 km/h.

Diagnostic procedure
1. Checking Battery Condition





^ Check the condition of the battery.

Is the function correct?

NO
Go to step 9

YES
Go to step 2

2. Checking The Control Module +30 Power Supply

Unplug the connector

^ Control module, ABS (547)

^ Connect test lamp 86 11 857 between pin 17 and a good ground.





^ The test lamp should light.

Checking the Wiring harness.
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.

Is the function correct?

NO
Go to step 3

YES
Go to step 4

3. Rectifying The Lead





Rectify the open circuit in the lead between maxi fuse 2 (342a) and pin 17 of the control module.

4. Checking The Control Module +30 Power Supply

^ Connect test lamp 86 11 857 between pin 18 and a good ground.





^ The test lamp should light.

Checking the wiring harness.
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and indifferent directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.

Is the function correct?

NO
Go to step 5

YES
Go to step 6

5. Rectifying The Lead





Rectify the open circuit in the lead between crimp connection J8 and pin 18 of the control module.

6. Checking The Control Module +15 Power Supply





^ Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Go to step 7

7. Checking The Control Module +15 Power Supply









^ Connect test lamp 86 11 857 between pin 15 and a good ground.





^ The test lamp should light.

Checking the wiring harness,
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and indifferent directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.

Is the function correct?

NO
Go to step 8

YES
Go to step 10

8. Rectifying The Lead





Rectify the open circuit in the lead between crimp connection J8 and pin 18 of the control module.

9. Checking Battery Condition

Rectify the fault.
When repair is complete
Go to step 10

10. Final Check





^ Clear the diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.





Carry out a drive cycle:

^ Drive the car at varying engine loads and engine rpm for five minutes.

Evaluate the drive cycle.





^ Check that the diagnostic trouble code has not recurred

Is the function correct?

NO
Go to step 12

YES
Go to step 11

11. Final Check

The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
Diagnosis is complete
