Starter Motor: Service and Repair




Starter Replacement (2.4L)

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning (Service Precautions).

1. Disconnect the cable from negative battery terminal. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair)
3. Remove the air cleaner cap assembly.
4. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement (Removal and Replacement).
5. Remove the battery carrier. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement (Service and Repair).




6. Disconnect the wire harness.
7. Release the claw, and disconnect the wire harness.




8. Disconnect the terminal 50 connector (2) from the starter assembly.
9. Remove the nut and disconnect the wire harness from terminal 30 (1).




10. Remove the 3 bolts (1, 2), clutch accumulator bracket, wire harness clamp bracket and starter assembly.




11. Disconnect the terminal 50 connector (2) from the starter assembly.
12. Remove the nut and disconnect the wire harness from terminal 30 (1).




13. Remove the 2 bolts (1, 2), wire harness clamp bracket and starter assembly.

Installation Procedure





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

1. Install the starter assembly, clutch accumulator bracket and wire harness clamp bracket with the 3 bolts (1, 2).

* Bolt 1 to 37 Nm (27 lb ft)
* Bolt 2 to 12 Nm (9 lb ft)




2. Connect the wire harness to terminal 30 and install the nut (1). Then, attach the terminal cap.

Tighten the nut to 9.8 Nm (87 lb in).

3. Connect the terminal 50 connector (2) to the starter assembly.




4. Install the starter assembly and wire harness clamp bracket with the 2 bolts (1, 2).

Tighten the bolts to 37 Nm (27 lb ft).




5. Connect the wire harness to terminal 30 and install the nut (1). Then, attach the terminal cap.

Tighten the nut to 9.8 Nm (87 lb in).

6. Connect the terminal 50 connector (2) to the starter assembly.
7. Install the battery carrier. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement (Removal and Replacement).




9. Install wire harness.
10. Install the claw and wire harness.
11. Install the air cleaner assembly.
12. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
13. Connect the cable to negative battery terminal. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
