Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Replacement

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to SIR Warning (SIR Warning).

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
2. Place the front wheels in the straight ahead position.




3. Remove the left bolt cover (1) from the steering wheel module.




4. Remove the right bolt cover (1) from the steering wheel module.




5. Remove the bolts (1) from the steering wheel module (2).




6. Release the connector position assurances (1) from the inflator module.
7. Disconnect the steering wheel module connectors (2).
8. Disconnect the horn connector (3).
9. Remove the steering wheel module.
10. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Module Handling and Scrapping (Procedures).

Installation Procedure




Warning: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Warning (SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Warning).

1. Connect the steering wheel module connectors (2).
2. Connect the connector position assurances (3) to the inflator module.
3. Install the steering wheel module.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

4. Install the bolts to the steering wheel module (1).

Tighten the bolts to 8.8 Nm (78 lb in).




5. Install the left bolt cover (1) from the steering wheel module.




6. Install the right bolt cover (1) from the steering wheel module.
7. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
