Rear Brake Hose Replacement (All Wheel Drive and GT)

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).




3. Clean the brake hose and the fittings (1).

Note: The left and right rear brake hoses are not interchangeable.

4. Place tags or marks on the brake hose in order to identify the installed position of the brake hose.
Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning (Brake Fluid Irritant Warning).


Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution (Vehicle Damage Warnings).

5. Remove the fitting and the gasket in order to separate the brake hose from the rear brake caliper.
Discard the brake hose gasket.
6. Install a cap or a plug to the caliper in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
7. Use a wrench in order to hold the brake hose. Remove the brake hose from the brake pipe.
8. Remove the brake hose retainer.
Discard the brake hose retainer.
9. Remove the brake hose.
10. Install a cap or a plug to the brake pipe in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

Installation Procedure

1. If you are reusing the brake hose, align the tags or marks in order to install the hose in the correct position.
If you are installing a new brake hose, verify the part number.
2. Remove the cap or the plug from the brake pipe.
3. Position the brake hose on the brake pipe. Ensure the brake hose is not kinked or twisted.
4. Install a NEW retainer as far as the retainer will go.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

5. Use a wrench in order to hold the brake hose. Use torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 250 mm (9.84 in) and a union nut wrench in order to tighten the fitting to 14 Nm (124 lb in).
6. Remove the cap or the plug from the caliper.
7. Install A NEW brake hose gasket and the brake hose to the caliper:




8. Install the fitting (1) and tighten to 33 Nm (24 lb ft).

Caution: Refer to Filling the Master Cylinder Caution (Filling the Master Cylinder Caution).

9. Bleed the hydraulic brake system at the bleeder valve closest to the brake hose. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Service and Repair).
10. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
11. Lower the vehicle.
