Brake Pipe Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. If necessary, raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. If necessary, remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).




3. Clean the brake pipe (1) and the fittings (2).
4. If the brake pipe is attached to a flexible brake hose (4), use a wrench in order to hold the brake hose.
Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning (Brake Fluid Irritant Warning).


Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution (Vehicle Damage Warnings).

5. Loosen the brake pipe fittings.
6. If equipped, remove the brake pipe retainers (3).
Discard the retainers.
7. If necessary, remove the brake pipe from the brackets.
8. Remove the brake pipe from the vehicle.
9. Install caps or plugs to the brake pipes on the vehicle in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

Installation Procedure

1. Remove the caps or the plugs from the brake pipes.




2. If equipped, install NEW brake pipe retainers (3).
3. If the brake pipe is attached to a flexible brake hose (4), use a wrench in order to hold the brake hose.
4. Install the brake pipe (1) and the fittings (2).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

5. Use torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 250 mm (9.84 in) and a union nut wrench in order to tighten the fitting (2) to 14 Nm (124 lb in).
6. Install the brake pipe to the brackets as necessary.
Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Warning (Dangers, Warnings, and Cautions).


Caution: Refer to Filling the Master Cylinder Caution (Filling the Master Cylinder Caution).

7. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Service and Repair).
8. If you removed a tire and wheel assembly, install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
9. If you raised the vehicle, lower the vehicle.
10. Inspect the hydraulic brake system for leaks. Repair as necessary. Refer to Brake System External Leak Inspection (Brake System External Leak Inspection).
