P0510
COMPONENT DESCRIPTION
A closed throttle position switch and wide open throttle position switch are built into the throttle position sensor unit. The wide open throttle position switch is used only for MT control. When the throttle valve is in the closed position the closed throttle position switch sends a voltage signal to the ECM The ECM only uses this signal to open or close the EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve when the throttle position sensor is malfunctioning.
ECM TERMINALS AND REFERENCE VALUE
Specification data are reference values and are measured between each terminal and (43) (ECM ground).
ON BOARD DIAGNOSES LOGIC
DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE
CAUTION: Always drive vehicle at a safe speed.
NOTE: If "DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE" has been previously conducted, always turn ignition switch "OFF" and wait at least 5 seconds before conducting the next test.
With Consult
1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2. Check voltage between ECM terminal (27) and ground under the following conditions.
At idle: Battery voltage
At 2,000 rpm: 0 - 1 V
If the check result is NG, go to "DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE".
If OK, go to following step.
3. Select "DATA MONITOR" mode with CONSULT at the start of the test.
4. Drive the vehicle for at least 5 consecutive seconds under the following condition.
THRTL POS SEN: More than 2.5 V
VHCL SPEED SE: More than 4 KPH (2 MPH)
Selector lever: Suitable position
Driving pattern: Driving vehicle uphill (Increased engine load) will help maintain the driving conditions required for this test.
5. If 1st trip DTC is detected, go to "DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE".
OR
OVERALL FUNCTION CHECK
Use this procedure to check the overall function of the closed throttle position switch circuit. During this check, a 1st trip DTC might not be confirmed.
Without Consult
1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2. Check the voltage between ECM terminal (27) and ground under the following conditions.
At idle: Battery voltage
At 2,000 rpm: Approximately 0 V
3. If NG, go to "DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE".

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
COMPONENT INSPECTION
CLOSED THROTTLE POSITION SWITCH
1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2. Turn ignition switch "OFF".
3. Disconnect throttle position switch harness connector.
4. Check continuity between terminals (5) and (6) while opening throttle valve manually.
NOTE: Resistance measurements must be made with closed throttle position switch installed in vehicle.
If NG, replace throttle position switch.
To adjust it, perform "Basic Inspection".
THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
1. Disconnect throttle position sensor harness connector.
2. Make sure that resistance between terminals (2) and (3) changes when opening throttle valve manually.
NOTE: Resistance measurements must be made with throttle position sensor installed in vehicle.
If NG, replace throttle position sensor. To adjust it, perform "Basic Inspection".
