Inspection Procedure 1 (Vehicles With MMCS Except Vehicles With TC-SST)




Inspection Procedure 1: Rear view camera image is not correctly displayed (Vehicles with MMCS except vehicles with TC-SST).

CAUTION:
Before replacing the rear view camera or multivision display, ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit, and the communication circuit are normal (Check that the voltage is 10 V or more).

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

When the screen of rear view camera is not shown even if the shift lever [M/T] or selector lever [CVT] is "R" (Reverse) position, the rear view camera, the wiring harness, connectors, backup light switch [M/T] or transmission range switch [CVT], multivision display may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES

- Damaged harness wires and connectors

- Malfunction of the backup light switch [M/T]

- Malfunction of the transmission range switch [CVT]

- Malfunction of the rear view camera

- Malfunction of the multivision display

DIAGNOSIS

Required Special Tools:

- MB991223: Harness Set

- MB992006: Extra Fine Probe

- MB991958: Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III Sub Assembly)
- MB991824: Vehicle Communication Interface (V.C.I.)

- MB991827: M.U.T.-III USB Cable

- MB991910: M.U.T.-III Main Harness A

STEP 1. Using scan tool MB991958, read the ETACS-ECU diagnostic trouble code.





(1)Operate scan tool MB991958 to read the ETACS-ECU option coding information Coding List).
(2)Check if the diagnostic trouble code is set to the ETACS-ECU.

Q. Is the DTC set?

YES Troubleshoot the ETACS-ECU (Refer to Electronic Time and Alarm Control System (ETACS)), and then go to Step 2.

NO Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Using scan tool MB991958, check data list.

Check if ETACS-ECU related signal is set.

- Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.





OK: Normal condition is displayed.


Q. Is the check result normal?

YES Go to Step 3.
NO Refer to Inspection Procedure 2.
STEP 3. Using scan tool MB991958, check data list.

Check if ETACS-ECU related signal is set.

- Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.

- Shift lever [M/T] or selector lever [CVT] is "R" (Reverse) position.





OK: Normal condition is displayed.


Q. Is the check result normal?

YES Go to step 10.
NO Go to step 4.
STEP 4. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-313 and backup light switch connector B-110 [M/T] or transmission range switch connector B-09 [CVT] for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.

Q. Are ETACS-ECU connector C-313 and backup light switch connector B-110 [M/T] or transmission range switch connector B-09 [CVT] in good condition?

YES Go to Step 5.
NO Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Harness Connector Inspection.
STEP 5. Check the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-313
(terminal 4) and backup light switch connector B-110 (terminal 2) [M/T] or transmission range switch connector B-09 (terminal 3) [CVT].


- Check the communication lines for open circuit and short circuit.

NOTE:
Also check intermediate connector C-39 and A-10 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connector C-39 and A-10 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in Harness Connector Inspection Harness Connector Inspection.

Q. Is the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-313 (terminal 4) and backup light switch connector B-110 (terminal 2) [M/T] or transmission range switch connector B-09 (terminal 3) [CVT] in good condition?

YES Go to Step 6.
NO Repair the wiring harness.
STEP 6. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-304 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.

Q. Is ETACS-ECU connector C-304 in good condition?

YES Go to Step 7.
NO Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Harness Connector Inspection.
STEP 7. Check the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-304
(terminal 2) and backup light switch connector B-110 (terminal 1) [M/T] or transmission range switch connector B-09 (terminal 9) [CVT].


- Check the communication lines for open circuit and short circuit.

NOTE:
Also check intermediate connector A-10 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connector A-10 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in Harness Connector Inspection Harness Connector Inspection.

Q. Is the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-304 (terminal 2) and backup light switch connector B-110 (terminal 1) [M/T] or transmission range switch connector B-09 (terminal 9) [CVT] in good condition?

YES [CVT] : Go to Step 8.
YES [M/T] : Go to Step 9.
NO Repair the wiring harness.
STEP 8. Check the transmission range switch and the control cable.

Check that the transmission range switch and the control cable are adjusted correctly
[CVT].

Q. Is the check result normal?

YES Go to Step 9.
NO Adjust the transmission range switch and the control cable.
STEP 9. Check the backup light switch [M/T] or transmission range switch [CVT].

- Check the continuity of the backup light switch [M/T] [M/T].

- Check for continuity of the transmission range switch [CVT].

Q. Is the check result normal?

YES The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction How to Cope With Intermittent Malfunctions).
NO Replace the transmission range switch.
STEP 10. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-311 and multivision display connector C-13 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.

Q. Are ETACS-ECU connector C-311 and multivision display connector C-13 in good condition?

YES Go to Step 11.
NO Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Harness Connector Inspection.
STEP 11. Check the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-311
(terminal 2) and multivision display connector C-13 (terminal 24).


- Check the communication lines for open circuit or short circuit.

NOTE:
Also check intermediate connector C-36 and C-103 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connector C-36 and C-103 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in Harness Connector Inspection Harness Connector Inspection.

Q. Is the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector C-311 (terminal 2) and multivision display connector C-13 (terminal 24) in good condition?

YES Go to step 12.
NO Repair the wiring harness.
STEP 12. Confirmation in MMCS service mode.

Perform "Network/Connect Line Check" in the MMCS service mode to check that the communication and wire connection with the rear view camera are OK (Refer to Without Manufacture's Scan Tool (Service Mode)).

NOTE:
The rear view camera is shown as "rear camera" on the "Network/Connect Line Check"
in the service mode of MMCS.

Q. Is the check result normal?

YES Go to Step 14.
NO Go to Step 13.
STEP 13. Check rear view camera connector F-41 and multivision display connector C-59 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.

Q. Are rear view camera connector F-41 and multivision display connector C-59 in good condition?

YES Go to Step 14.
NO Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Harness Connector Inspection.
STEP 14. Check the wiring harness between rear view camera connector F-41 (terminal 6, 3, 2, 5, 4) and multivision display connector C-59 (terminal 93, 95, 91, 92, 96).

- Check the communication lines for open circuit and short circuit.

NOTE:
Also check intermediate connector C-103, C-35, D-51 and F-42 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connector C-103, C-35, D-51 and F-42 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in Harness Connector Inspection Harness Connector Inspection.

Q. Is the check result normal?

YES Go to Step 15.
NO Repair the wiring harness.
STEP 15. Confirmation in MMCS service mode.

(1)Display the VEHICLE SIGNAL CHECK screen (Refer to Without Manufacture's Scan Tool (Service Mode)).

(2)Move the selector lever to the "R" (Reverse) position and check whether "ON" is displayed.

Q. Is the check result normal?

YES Go to Step 16.
NO Replace the multivision display.
STEP 16. Trouble symptom recheck.

Check that the display of rear view camera is shown normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

YES The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction How to Cope With Intermittent Malfunctions).
NO Replace the rear view camera temporarily and go to Step 17.
STEP 17. Trouble symptom recheck.

Check that the display of rear view camera is shown normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

YES Replace the rear view camera.
NO Replace the multivision display.
