Water Leaks




ELECTRIC CONVERTIBLE TOP DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLESHOOTING STRATEGY

Use these steps to plan your diagnostic strategy. If you follow them carefully, you will be sure that you have exhausted most of the possible ways to find the electric convertible top fault.
1. Gather information from customer.
2. Verify that the condition described by the customer exists. (Refer to Water Leak Check
.)
3. Find the malfunction by following the Symptom Chart.
4. Verify malfunction is eliminated.

WATER LEAK JUDGING STANDARD

Water leak is judged when all the states that show below under the condition which carries out Water leak check cannot be held.

- Water drop drips from the part where Door window glass and quarter window glass were put together, or the water of the width of about 3 mm (0.12 inch) flows on the glass surface by the side of the car interior of a room. (However, when you wiped and intercept this stream by the fingertip, it is a stream to the extent that returning to the original stream takes the time for 3 seconds or more.)
- Water leak from places other than the above.

WATER LEAK CHECK

Gather information from the customer to confirm the water leak, and follow the procedure below to perform the water leak check.

1. Using a dry cloth, wipe out water drops on the weatherstrips and windows.

2. Check the presence of breakage, damage, deformation, or creep on the weatherstrips.
If there is any failure, replace the relevant weatherstrips.

3. Turn off the air conditioning switch.

4. Fully close the convertible top, doors, all door windows, and quarter windows.





5. NOTE:
Use a 16-mm (0.63 inches) diameter hose for check.

Using tap water, adjust the water pressure so that the height of water sprayed from the hose is approximately 160 mm (6.3 inches) with the end of the hose facing up.





6. Spray water on the convertible top weatherstrip at a perpendicular angle, approximately 100 mm (4 inches) away from the weatherstrip. Spray fully around the convertible top twice, checking for water leaks.





7. Spray water between the cowl top heater weatherstrip and the roof rail front outer panel weatherstrip, at a perpendicular angle approximately 100 mm (4 inches) from the weatherstrip.
Spray fully around the area twice checking for water leaks.





8. Spray water between the rear 5-bow weatherstrip and the panel garnish, approximately 100 mm (4 inches) from the weatherstrip. Spray fully around the area twice checking for water leaks.
