Steering Wheel: Service and Repair




REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

WARNING:

- Before removing the steering wheel assembly and driver's air bag module, refer to Service Precautions ( Technician Safety Information) and Air Bag Module and Clock Spring ( Service and Repair).
- When removing and installing the steering wheel assembly, do not let it bump against the driver's air bag module.
- After adjusting the steering angle, always perform calibration to make TCL/ASC-ECU learn the neutral position of the steering wheel sensor. Testing and Inspection ).














Required Special Tool:

- MB990803: Steering Wheel Puller

REMOVAL SERVICE POINTS

[[A]] CONNECTOR (DRIVER'S AIR BAG MODULE, HORN AND STEERING WHEEL REMOTE CONTROL HARNESS) DISCONNECTION





Slide the outer housing of the driver's air bag module connector in the arrow direction shown, and disconnect the connector.

[[B]] STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY REMOVAL

CAUTION:
Use the special tool to remove the steering wheel since the steering column collision absorbing mechanism may be damaged.





Use special tool MB990803 to remove the steering wheel.

INSTALLATION SERVICE POINT

]]A[[ STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY/DRIVER'S AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION

1.
CAUTION:
When installing the steering wheel assembly and driver's air bag module, ensure that the harness of the clock spring does not become caught or tangled.

Before installing the steering wheel assembly and driver's air bag module, turn the vehicle's front wheels to the straight-ahead position and align the mating marks of the clock spring.

2. After securing the steering wheel assembly, turn the steering wheel assembly all the way in both directions to confirm that the steering wheel assembly rotation is normal.
