INSPECTION PROCEDURE 2: Water leak through the weatherstrip

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS

- Improper aligned door
- Improper adjusted window glass
- Improper positioned weatherstrip holder

CAUTION:
The weatherstrip holder has been adjusted at factory. Do not make an adjustment unless absolutely necessary.

DIAGNOSIS

STEP 1. Check the fit between the door window glass and the weatherstrip holder, and between the quarter glass and weatherstrip holder.

1. Remove the weatherstrip from the weatherstrip holder.

NOTE:
Special tools is installed in the weatherstrip installation hole of weatherstrip holder.
(MB992165 to MB992167 and MB992169 to MB992170)

NOTE:
It installs it so that special tool (MB992168) may hit the part in the corner of door glass.

NOTE:
The tape is sticking adjusted up and down and evenly in respect where special tools and weatherstrip holder are hit disregarding it when there is a space between special tools and weatherstrip holder.

Set the special tools MB992165 to MB992170 on the weatherstrip holders, and check the clearance from each window glass.

Q. Is the clearance between each glass and the weatherstrip holder normal?

YES Go to Step 2.
NO Adjust the glass to achieve correct clearance, then perform the water leak check again.(Refer to Water Leaks.)
STEP 2. Check the weatherstrip contact with the window glass.

Check the contact state of the weatherstrip with the window glass.

Q. Is the contact of the weatherstrip with the window glass insufficient (poor seal) all around the glass?

YES Check the door alignment and then adjust the window glass.(Refer to Adjustments.)
NO Go to Step 3.
STEP 3. Check the weatherstrip contact with the window glass.

Check the contact state of the weatherstrip with the window glass.

Q. Is the contact of the weatherstrip with the window glass insufficient (poor seal) in some areas?

YES Adjust the weatherstrip holder.(Refer to Adjustments.)
NO Return to Step 1.
