Inspection Procedure 5

INSPECTION PROCEDURE 5: The audio communication error screen is displayed to the multi-center display.

CAUTION: Before replacing the multi-center display, or radio, CD player and CD changer , ensure that the power supply circuit and the ground circuit are normal. (Check that the voltage is 10 V or more.)







COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
The multi-center display receives the audio information from the radio, CD player and CD changer and displays it. If the audio communication error (Malfunction - System Communication Error) is displayed, the multi-center display or radio, CD player and CD changer may be defective.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
- The wiring harness or connectors may have loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector
- The multi-center display may be defective
- The radio, CD player and CD changer may be defective

DIAGNOSIS

Required Special Tools:
- MB991223: Harness Set
- MB992006: Extra Fine Probe

STEP 1. Check the audio system.

Check if the audio system operates normally and the voice is output.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : Go to Step 2.

NO : Refer to radio with CD player Diagnosis. Symptom Chart

STEP 2. Perform "CONNECT CHECK" in the service mode.

1. Display the CONNECT CHECK screen. Scan Tool Testing and Procedures
2. Check if "Exist" is shown in the field of Audio.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : Go to Step 5.

NO : Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check multi-center display connector C-31 and radio, CD player and CD changer connector C-134 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.







Q: Are multi-center display connector C-31 and radio, CD player and CD changer connector C-134 in good condition?

YES : Go to Step 4.

NO : Repair the damaged parts. Then, check that the audio communication error screen is not displayed to the multi-center display.

STEP 4. Check the wiring harness between multi-center display connector C-31 (terminal 7, 8, 17) and radio, CD player and CD changer connector C-134 (terminal 27, 28, 39).







- Check the wiring harness for open circuit and short circuit.

Q: Are the wiring harness between multi-center display connector C-31 (terminal 7, 8, 17) and radio, CD player and CD changer connector C-134 (terminal 27, 28, 39) in good condition?

YES : Go to Step 5.

NO : The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary. Check that the audio communication error screen is not displayed to the multi-center display.

STEP 5. Temporarily replace the radio as well as the CD player and CD changer, and check if the audio communication error screen is displayed.

Q: When the radio, and the CD player and CD changer are temporarily replaced, is the audio communication error screen displayed?

YES : Replace the radio, and the CD player and CD changer. Check that the audio communication error screen is not displayed to the multi-center display.

NO : Replace the multi-center display. Check that the audio communication error screen is not displayed to the multi-center display.
