Positive: Service and Repair




61 12 001 - Replacing positive battery lead (W11, W17)





Caution!
Comply with safety regulations [1][2]Safety Regulations For Handling Airbag System Components.
Investigate cause of safety battery terminal being triggered.
For this purpose read fault code memory of airbag control unit.
Note down fault messages stored in memory.
Rectify faults.
Then clear fault code memory.





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Disconnect battery negative terminal Instructions for Disconnecting and Connecting Battery
- Remove rear silencer/exhaust system
- Remove left wheel arch trim panel Service and Repair
- Remove intake filter housing Service and Repair





Left side only:
Release nut (1), screw (2) and self-tapping screw (3).
Remove underbody panelling (4).





Release nuts (2) and remove exhaust pipe bracket.
Tightening torque 18 00 7AZ [1][2]18 00 Exhaust Assembly.
Release screws (1 and 4), nuts (3) and detach heat shield (5).





Lift up luggage compartment mat.
Remove cover (1).
Release screw (2) and detach battery positive terminal.
Tightening torque 61 21 1AZ [1][2]Battery.
Release nut (3).
Unplug SBK connector (4).
Release clip (5).
Lift out rubber grommet (6) and pass battery positive lead through body.





Unfasten cable clip (1).





Unfasten cable clip (1).





Unfasten cable clip (1).





Unfasten cable clip (1).





Unfasten cable clip (1).





Open housing cover (1) and release nut (2).
Tightening torque 12 42 1AZ [1][2]Specifications.
Pull cable (3) out of housing.
Remove housing (4).

Installation note:
Reset clock.
