25 16 056 - Removing and installing/replacing shift tower (AISIN)





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Move selector lever to "P" position
- Remove center console 51 16 200 Removing And Installing Front Center Console.
- Remove cable/parking lock Removing and Installing/Replacing Interlock Cable
- Remove intake filter housing Service and Repair
- Remove intake filter housing gaiter.





Detach plug connector (1) of selector lever position switch.





Release screws (1) on reinforcement plate.
Tightening torque 18 00 3AZ [1][2]18 00 Exhaust Assembly.





Unscrew nuts (1).
Release center pipe from elbow flange.

Installation:
Replace seal and nuts.
Coat thread with copper paste -CRC-, refer to BMW Parts Service.
Tightening torque 18 00 3AZ [1][2]18 00 Exhaust Assembly.





Remove heat shield (1).
Tightening torque 51 48 1AZ 51 48 Heat Shields.





Remove heat shield (1).
Tightening torque 51 48 2AZ 51 48 Heat Shields.
Detach shift cable from mounting on floor and engine compartment.





Release cable lock nut (1).
Tightening torque 24 11 8AZ [1][2]Fluid Pan, A/T.





Press retaining clip (1) together and remove cable from fixture (2).





Remove retaining screws (1) of gear shift housing.
Tightening torque 25 16 2AZ [1][2]Shifter A/T.





Release retaining clip (1).
Secure selector lever.
Remove gearshift mechanism.





Installation:
- Move selector lever to "P" position
- Grip clamping sleeve (1)
- Slacken nut (2).
- Press shift lever (3) into park position, then release again
- Press cable (4) in direction of arrow, then release again
- Grip clamping sleeve (1) and tighten nut (2).





Installation:
Move selector lever to "P" position.
Check whether parking lock is engaged by turning output shaft.
