Pinpoint Test J: The Headlamps Do Not Illuminate When the Wipers are On

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 81, Front Wipers and Washers for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

The Smart Junction Box (SJB) sends a 12 voltage reference signal on circuit CRW22 (WH/BU) to the wiper motor module in order to monitor the status of the wipers. When the headlamp control switch is in the AUTOLAMP position and the wipers are on, the wiper motor module will pull the voltage reference signal low. After 10 seconds, the SJB will activate the headlamps.

- DTC B2008 Wipers On Signal Circuit Short to Ground - Short to ground on wiper motor on input circuit.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Windshield wiper motor
- SJB

PINPOINT TEST J: THE HEADLAMPS DO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE WIPERS ARE ON

-------------------------------------------------
J1 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW22 (WH/BU) FOR VOLTAGE

- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between windshield wiper motor C125-2 circuit CRW22 (WH/BU), harness side and ground.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to Wiper Motor - Windshield Wiper Motor - Windshield. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to J2.

-------------------------------------------------
J2 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW22 (WH/BU) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND

- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280F.
- Measure the resistance between SJB C2280F-8 circuit CRW22 (WH/BU), harness side and windshield wiper motor C125-2 circuit CRW22 (WH/BU); then between SJB C2280F-8 circuit CRW22 (WH/BU), harness side and ground.

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the SJB and windshield wiper motor and greater than 10,000 ohms between the SJB and ground?

Yes
GO to J3.

No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
J3 CHECK FOR CORRECT MODULE OPERATION

- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they are seated correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new SJB. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the SJB self-test.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
