Pinpoint Test AE: DTC U0100

Normal Operation
- DTC U0100 (Lost Communication With ECM/PCM) - sets in the Instrument Cluster (IC) if data messages received from the PCM over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) are missing for greater than 5 seconds. For a complete list of all network messages.

NOTE: Once the IC sets DTC U0100, multiple gauges or indicators are likely to be inoperative in the cluster. Other modules that require data from the IC all set communication DTCs and may also exhibit system function concerns.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- PCM
- IC

PINPOINT TEST AE: DTC U0100

-------------------------------------------------
AE1 VERIFY CUSTOMER CONCERN

- Ignition ON.
- Verify that there is an observable symptom present.
- Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to AE2.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.

-------------------------------------------------
AE2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Carry out the network test.
- Does the PCM pass the network test?

Yes
GO to AE3.

No
REFER to Information Bus.

-------------------------------------------------
AE3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IC DTCs from the self-test.
- Is DTC B1317 or B1318 recorded?

Yes
For DTC B1317, Go To Pinpoint Test AB. Pinpoint Tests AB: DTC B1317

For DTC B1318, Go To Pinpoint Test AC. Pinpoint Tests AC: DTC B1318

No
GO to AE4.

-------------------------------------------------
AE4 RECHECK THE IC CONTINUOUS MEMORY DTCs

NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during Programmable Module Installation (PMI) may not have been carried out.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC Self-Test.
- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the IC self-test.
- Is DTC U0100 still present?

Yes
GO to AE5.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic.

-------------------------------------------------
AE5 CHECK FOR DTC U0100 SET IN OTHER MODULES

- Clear all DTCs.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test.
- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.
- Is DTC U0100 set in the ABS module or the Restraints Control Module (RCM)?

Yes
REFER to Information Bus.

No
INSTALL a new PCM. TEST the system for normal operation.
