Pinpoint Test I: Power Liftgate DTC B117C - Latch Centering Switch Invalid

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 109, Power Liftgate/Retractable Running Board for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

The Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) monitors the sector gear open switch, circuit CPR67 (VT) and sector gear close switch, CPR68 (YE) to determine the sector gear position.

- DTC B117C Latch Centering Switch Invalid - This DTC will set when the LTM detects the sector gear open/close switch(es) are not in the correct state at the beginning of self-test.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Power liftgate latch
- LTM
- Wiring, terminals or connectors

PINPOINT TEST I: POWER LIFTGATE DTC B117C - LATCH CENTERING SWITCH INVALID

-------------------------------------------------
I1 CHECK THE SECTOR GEAR SWITCH CIRCUITS

NOTE: If any other power liftgate related DTCs are present, diagnose those first before proceeding with this pinpoint test. Refer to the Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) DTC Chart.

- Disconnect: Latch/Unlatch Assembly C4339.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between power liftgate latch/unlatch assembly C4339-6, circuit CPR67 (VT), harness side and ground; and between C4339-4, circuit CPR68 (YE), harness side and ground.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts for both measurements?

Yes
GO to I4.

No
GO to I2.

-------------------------------------------------
I2 CHECK CIRCUITS CPR67 (VT) AND CPR68 (YE) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: LTM C4174A.
- Measure the resistance between LTM C4174A-26, circuit CPR67 (VT), harness side and ground; and between LTM C4174A-15, circuit CPR68 (YE), harness side and ground.

- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

Yes
GO to I3.

No
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the LTM self-test.

-------------------------------------------------
I3 CHECK CIRCUITS CPR67 (VT) AND CPR68 (YE) FOR AN OPEN

- Measure the resistance between LTM C4174A, harness side and power liftgate latch/unlatch assembly C4339, harness side using the following chart:

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms for both measurements?

Yes
CHECK the LTM connector for bent or corroded connections on the component side and harness side. REPAIR as necessary.

CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the LTM self-test.

IF DTC B117C returns, INSTALL a new LTM. REFER to Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) Service and Repair. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the LTM self-test.

No
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the LTM self-test.

-------------------------------------------------
I4 CHECK CIRCUITS CPR67 (VT) AND CPR68 (YE) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: LTM C4174A.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between power liftgate latch/unlatch assembly C4339-6, circuit CPR67 (VT), harness side and ground; and between C4339-4, circuit CPR68 (YE), harness side and ground.

- Is any voltage present for both measurements?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the LTM self-test.

No
CHECK the power liftgate latch connector for bent or corroded connections on the component side and harness side. REPAIR as necessary.

INSTALL a new power liftgate latch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the LTM self-test.
