Pinpoint Test Y: DTC U0140 Or DTC U0140:00

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 130, Audio System/Navigation for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

- DTC U0140 (Lost Communication With Body Control Module (GEM)) - set by the Audio Control Module (ACM) when it is missing messages from the Smart Junction Box (SJB) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) for greater than 5 seconds with the ignition in the RUN position. These messages include the illumination dimmer level and the accessory delay status.
- DTC U0140:00 (Lost Communication With Body Control Module: No Sub Type Information) - set by the audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) module when it is missing messages from the SJB over the MS-CAN for greater than 5 seconds with the ignition in the RUN position.

These messages include the illumination dimmer level and the accessory delay status.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Communication network concern
- SJB
- ACM
- Audio DSP module (if equipped)



PINPOINT TEST Y: DTC U0140 OR DTC U0140:00

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

Y1 CHECK FOR LOST COMMUNICATION DTCs


- Ignition ON.
- Clear continuous DTCs from all modules.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait at least 10 seconds.
- Retrieve all continuous DTCs from all modules.
- Is DTC U0140 or U0140:00 set in any audio system modules?

Yes
GO to Y2.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

Y2 CHECK FOR BATTERY VOLTAGE OUT-OF-RANGE DTCs


- Carry out the self-test for the following modules:
- ACM
- SJB
- audio DSP module (if equipped)
- Is DTC B1317, B1318, U3003:16, or U3003:17 recorded in any module?

Yes
For the ACM, Go To Pinpoint Test X. Pinpoint Test X: DTC B1318 (Audio Control Module (ACM))

For the audio DSP module, Go To Pinpoint Test AA. Pinpoint Test AA: DTC U3003:16 (Audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Module)

For the SJB, REFER to Body Control Systems.

No
GO to Y3.

Y3 CHECK FOR DTC U0140 OR U0140:00 SET IN MULTIPLE MODULES


- Review the recorded results from the self-test.
- Is DTC U0140 or U0140:00 set in more than one module?

Yes
GO to Y4.

No
If there is an observable symptom, GO to Symptom Chart - General Audio System to diagnose the observed symptom. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures

If there is no observable symptom, DISREGARD the DTC.

Y4 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION


- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to Body Control Systems. CLEAR all continuous DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR all continuous DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
