Test H: The Odometer Is Inoperative

PINPOINT TEST H: THE ODOMETER IS INOPERATIVE

Normal Operation
The instrument cluster receives the odometer rolling count data from the PCM over the high speed controller area network (HS-CAN) communication bus. The instrument cluster monitors the odometer rolling count input from the PCM and commands the odometer with a display in the vacuum fluorescent display area.

If the instrument cluster does not receive the odometer rolling count data from the PCM for more than 5 seconds, the instrument cluster sets DTC U0100 in continuous memory and defaults the odometer display to all dashes (-----). If the odometer rolling count data is deemed invalid by the instrument cluster for 5 seconds or longer, the instrument cluster sets DTC U2023 and defaults the odometer display to all dashes (-----).

NOTE: If DTC U0100 is set in the instrument cluster, other observable symptoms may be an inoperative speedometer, tachometer, temperature gauge.

- DTC B2143 (NVM Memory Failure) - is a continuous and on-demand DTC that sets if the instrument cluster non-volatile memory (NVM) is corrupted. If the instrument cluster determines the NVM to be corrupt, the instrument cluster sets DTC B2143 and displays ERROR in the vacuum fluorescent display area.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- PCM concern
- Instrument cluster
