F: C1222, C1296 (LF), C1297 (RF), C1298 (LR) and C1299 (RR) - Wheel Speed Sensor Fault
Pinpoint Test F: DTCs C1222, C1296 (LF), C1297 (RF), C1298 (LR) and C1299 (RR) - Wheel Speed Sensor Fault
Normal Operation
The wheel speed sensor and sensor tone ring generate a square wave signal to the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module that is proportional to wheel speed. The ABS module compares wheel speed inputs from all wheel speed sensors to determine an impending wheel lockup.
Voltage and ground signals are supplied to the wheel speed sensors from the ABS module. A malfunctioning wheel speed sensor, damaged sensor tone ring or an open, short to ground or short to voltage in the wheel speed sensor wiring may cause one or more of diagnostic trouble code (DTCs) to set.
Incorrect and/or mismatched tires installed on the vehicle as well as low tire pressure in one or more tires may cause DTC C1222 to set.
Possible Causes
- Mismatched tire sizes
- Underinflated tire(s)
- Wheel speed sensor tone ring
- Wheel speed sensor
- ABS module
Notice: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.
Note: If the ignition key is turned to the ON position when one or more wheel speed sensors are disconnected, the ABS module will disable the output to that sensor. Make sure all test connections are made at the wheel speed sensors before turning the ignition key to the ON position.
