Normal Operation
The Restraints Control Module (RCM) monitors the passenger side air bag circuit loop at RCM C310b pins 6 and 7, circuits 1259 (WH/YE) and 1260 (BN/YE). If the RCM detects a low resistance (less than 0.7 ohms) or an open circuit (greater than 3.7 ohms), it will store Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1998 or B1999 in memory and flash Lamp Fault Code (LFC) 37 (or higher priority code if one exists) on the air bag indicator.

Possible Causes
A passenger side air bag circuit open or low resistance can be caused by:
^ an open or high resistance on circuit 1259 (WH/YE) or 1260 (BN/YE).
^ circuits 1259 (WH/YE) and 1260 (BN/YE) shorted together.
^ a passenger side air bag module internal fault.
^ an RCM internal fault.
