Normal Operation
The Restraints Control Module (RCM) monitors the driver side air bag circuit loop at RCM C310b pins 3 and 4, circuits 1257 (WH/LB) and 1258 (BN/LB). If the RCM detects a low resistance (less than 0.7 ohms) or an open circuit (greater than 3.7 ohms), it will store Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1994 or B1995 in memory and flash Lamp Fault Code (LFC) 36 (or higher priority code if one exists) on the air bag indicator.

Possible Causes
A driver side air bag circuit open or low resistance can be caused by:
^ an open or high resistance on circuit 1257 (WH/LB) or 1258 (BN/LB).
^ circuits 1257 (WH/LB) and 1258 (BN/LB) shorted together.
^ a driver side air bag module internal fault.
^ an RCM internal fault.
