Normal Operation
The Restraints Control Module (RCM) checks for passenger air bag squib 2 circuit shorts to battery and ground by monitoring circuits 1518 (RD/WH) and 1519 (GN/RD) at RCM C310b pins 20 and 21. If the RCM detects a short to battery or ground on either of these pins, it will store Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2228 or B2231 in memory and flash Lamp Fault Code (LFC) 31 (or higher priority code if one exists) on the bag indicator.

Possible Causes
A passenger air bag squib 2 circuit short to battery or ground can be caused by:
^ a short to battery or ground on circuit 1518 (RD/Will) or 1519 (ON/RD).
^ a short to battery or ground in the passenger air bag module.
^ an RCM internal fault.
