Normal Operation
The Restraints Control Module (RCM) checks for passenger pretensioner circuit shorts to battery and ground by monitoring circuits 1081 (YE/RD) and 1082 (YE/BK) at RCM C310b pins 23 and 24. If the RCM detects a short to battery or ground on either of these pins, it will store Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1882 or B1883 in memory and flash Lamp Fault Code (LFC) 18 (or higher priority code if one exists) on the air bag indicator.
Possible Causes
A passenger pretensioner circuit short to battery or ground can be caused by:
^ a short to battery or ground on circuit 1081 (YE/RD).
^ a short to battery or ground on circuit 1082 (YE/BK).
^ a short to battery or ground in the passenger pretensioner.
^ an RCM internal concern.
