Timing Cover: Service and Repair

Special Tools:






Removal
1. Remove the LH valve cover.
2. Remove the RH valve cover.
3. Remove the power steering pump.
4. Remove the oil pan.





5. Remove the generator.
1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
2. Remove the bolts.
3. Remove the generator.
6. Drain the cooling system.





7. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the water PUMP.
8. Remove the crankshaft pulley.





9. Remove the bolt and remove the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor.





10. Remove the nut and the radio ignition interference capacitor.
11. Lower the vehicle.





12. Disconnect the coolant hose.





13. Remove the bolts and the A/C compressor to water pump bracket.





14. Remove the nuts and remove the water pump.





15. Remove the bolt and remove the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor.





16. Remove the bolt and remove the belt tensioner.





17. Disconnect the engine cooling fan electrical connector and unclip the wiring harness.





18. Remove the bolt and the engine cooling fan.





19. Install the special tools to support the engine.





20. Remove the two upper A/C compressor bolts.
21. Raise the vehicle.





22. Remove the two lower A/C compressor bolts and position the A/C compressor aside.
23. Lower the vehicle.





24. Remove the A/C bracket.
1. Remove the bolts.
2. Remove the engine mount bolts.
3. Remove the bracket.





25. Remove the bolts, studs and the engine front cover.

Installation
1. Clean all sealing surfaces on the engine and the front cover.
2. Install a new gasket in the front cover.





3. Note: The engine front cover must be installed and the bolts tightened with in six minutes of applying the sealant.

Apply a 6 mm (0.24 inch) diameter dot of Silicone Gasket and Sealer F7AZ-19554-EA or equivalent meeting ford specification WSE-M4G323-A4 to the cylinder block to lower cylinder block and cylinder head mating surfaces.





4. Note: Fasteners No. 1-3, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12, and 13 are studs.

Position the cover and install the bolts in the sequence shown.





5. Install the A/C bracket.
1. Position the bracket.
2. Install the bolts.
- Tighten the bolts in two stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 2: Tighten 90 degrees.
3. Install the engine mount bolts.
6. Raise the vehicle.





7. Position the A/C compressor and install the two lower bolts.
8. Lower the vehicle.





9. Install the two upper A/C compressor bolts.





10. Remove the special tools.





11. Position the engine cooling fan and install the bolt.





12. Connect the engine cooling fan electrical connector and clip the wiring harness.





13. Position belt tensioner and install the bolt.





14. Install the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor and install the bolt.





15. Position the water pump and install the nuts.





16. Position the A/C compressor to water pump bracket and install the bolts.





17. Connect the coolant hose.
18. Raise the vehicle.





19. Install the radio ignition interference capacitor.





20. Install the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor.
21. Install the crankshaft pulley.





22. Connect the coolant hoses to the water pump.





23. Install the generator.
1. Position the generator.
2. Install the bolts.
3. Connect the electrical connector.
24. Install the oil pan.
25. Install the power steering pump.
26. Install the RH valve cover.
27. Install the LH valve cover.
28. Fill coolant system.
