Camshaft: Service and Repair
NOTE: Ford does not provide camshaft gear timing marks, or information to perform timing belt service without the special tools shown in this procedure.
REMOVAL
1. Remove the timing belt.
2. Remove the intake timing gear.
1 Remove the bolt.
2 Remove the intake timing
3. Remove the exhaust gear oil plug.
4. Remove the exhaust timing gear.
1 Remove the bolt
2 Remove the exhaust timing gear.
5. Remove the bolts from the oil feed flange.
NOTE: Working evenly in several stages, remove each bolt.
6. Loosening sequence of the camshaft bearing caps in the sequence shown.
7. Remove the camshafts.
1 Remove the camshaft bearing caps.
2 Remove the intake camshaft.
3 Remove the exhaust camshaft with the oil feed flange.
INSTALLATION
1. Thinly coat camshaft bearing cap numbered 5 with Silicone Gasket and Sealant F1AZ-19562-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M4G320-A2.
2. Install a new gasket into the oil feed flange.
3. Assemble the exhaust camshaft for installation.
1 Insert the oil feed ring into the oil feed flange.
2 Slide both components together onto the exhaust camshaft.
4. Positioning the oil feed flange for installation.
1 The oil feed flange faces upwards during the installation of the exhaust camshaft.
2 The oil feed ring hole is at the top.
3 Install the locating tab in this position when installing the oil feed flange.
5. Install the camshafts.
1 Install the exhaust camshaft with the oil feed flange.
2 Install the exhaust camshaft.
3 Install the bearing caps.
6. Follow the torque sequence and tighten the bearing caps.
7. Install in the oil feed flange bolts.
1 Tighten the right-hand bolt.
2 Tighten the left-hand bolt.
8. Install the intake camshaft seal using a Camshaft Seal Replacer.
9. Install the exhaust camshaft seal flush with the surface using a rubber mallet.
10. Position the tab on the exhaust timing gear.
1 The tab is centered between the oil bores and the mark.
2 The tab must be installed in the bore.
11. Install the exhaust timing gear.
12. Install the exhaust gear oil plug.
13. Install the intake timing gear.
14. Install the timing belt.
