Parking Brake System: Service and Repair

NOTES:
^ This procedure requires two people to disengage and reload the parking brake cable adjuster.
^ This procedure requires the Brake cable Tension tool. Refer To Tools and Equipment. Tools and Equipment

1. Fully release the parking brake.
2. Raise and support vehicle on an axle-type hoist.
3. Remove parking brake rear cable and conduit from black plastic front parking brake cable retainer under floorpan by unsnapping retainer and pulling out parking brake rear cable and conduit.
4. Unlock the parking brake cable adjuster by pulling downward on the clip.
5. Person-2 - While clip is disengaged, apply the parking brake control fully to the last notch position. The tensioner spring will compress allowing cable slack to return.
6. Person-1 - Lock the parking brake cable adjuster by pushing up on the clip. Person-2 is finished.
7. Make sure locking lever is secure by rotating it toward threaded rod.
8. Wrap tape or wire around the locking lever and threaded rod to prevent accidental release.
