Initial Adjustment
NOTE: This procedure requires the use of a special tool. Refer to Tools and Equipment. Tools and EquipmentCHECK INSTALLATION
^ Install parking brake cable adjuster and all cables with routing clips.
^ Connect all cables together with parking brake cable adjuster. (Be sure to install correct adjuster for rear brake usage).
INITIAL INSTALLATION ADJUSTMENT
1. Place transmission in NEUTRAL (N) and raise vehicle on an axle-type hoist.
2. Grasp tensioner around housing. Using special tool, hook the end into the rounded end at clip between clip and housing. Unlock clip by pulling downward with the tool while holding tensioner. Tensioner spring will take up cable slack and preload cables.
3. While holding tensioner, lock the clip by pushing up on bottom of clip. If clip does not slide up, move assembly slightly to align closest groove on adjuster rod to the clip.
4. Apply parking brake control fully with 170 N (125 lb) foot pedal effort. Release parking brake control. Repeat application and release step twice.
5. Repeat step 2 and 3 to take up any additional slack.
6. Insert LH parking brake rear cable and conduit into black plastic front parking brake cable retainer which hangs under floorpan.
7. Turn rear wheels by hand to feel for the rear parking brake shoe and linings draging. If park brakes are dragging, perform adjustment again and check for binding components.
8. Snap retainer shut.
9. Check for movement of the parking brake rear cable and conduits from their conduits when the front parking brake cable and conduit is deflected with a force of 45-65 N (10-15 lbs). Cables should slide easily into and out of the conduits.
10. Lower vehicle and retest.
