A13 Test Drive Vehicle (Steering Effort)
- Ensure VAPS system is connected.
- Drive vehicle up to 88 km/h (55 mph) and set speed control actuator switch (9C888).
- While driving vehicle, note operation of speedometer.
Do steering efforts change?
Yes
Diagnostics complete.
System is OK.
No
Go to A14.
If speedometer is inoperative, Go to B1. B: Steering Does Not Vary With Vehicle Speed

A14 Test Drive Vehicle (Left To Right Effort)
- Repeat vehicle set-up as in A13.
- While driving vehicle, note operation of speedometer.
Is effort unbalanced left to right?
Yes
REPLACE power steering short rack (3L547) assembly. Service and Repair
REPEAT A13.
No
Go to B1. B: Steering Does Not Vary With Vehicle Speed
