Cooling System: Testing and Inspection






NOTE: Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

PROCEDURE

WARNING:
^ Risk of scalding as a result of hot coolant spraying out
^ Open cap of expansion reservoir or radiator (2)
^ Do not open the cap of the expansion reservoir or radiator unless the coolant temperature is below 90°C.
^ Carefully turn cap to the first detent or slowly about l/2 turn.
^ Wear protective clothing.


1. urn 2-stage cap half a turn anti-clockwise to release pressure and then unscrew cap (2).
2. Set heater switches to maximum heating capacity
3. Cheek coolant level
Adjust to correct level, if necessary, refer to Correct Cooling System Level.
4. Connect 2 stage test cap (3) to expansion tank
5. Connect suitable cooling system pressure tester

CAUTION: If new cylinder head gasket has been installed, inspect cooling system for leaks after engine has reached operating temperature.

6. Pressurize cooling system to about 1.4 bar
7. Check the cooling system components, cooling and heating hoses and their connection points to ensure they are in proper condition, with no loss of coolant; check that hose clips are in proper condition and tight
If necessary, after checking: re-tighten or replace hose clips. Replace coolant hoses
