Active Park Assist

Normal Operation

A reference voltage and signal return is supplied to the active park assist sensors from the Parking Aid Module (PAM). The PAM receives an input signal from each active park assist sensor to determine if the vehicle can fit into the available parking space.

The attenuation time for the active park assist sensors is the time required for a sensor to detect the distance to an object expressed in milliseconds (ms).

- DTC B129C:96 (Left Front Side Sensor: Component Internal Failure) - a continuous and on-demand DTC that sets when the left front active park assist sensor has internally failed or has an incorrect attenuation time.
- DTC B129D:96 (Right Front Side Sensor: Component Internal Failure) - a continuous and on-demand DTC that sets when the right front active park assist sensor has internally failed or has an incorrect attenuation time.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Active park assist sensor(s)
- PAM



PINPOINT TEST D: DTC B129C:96 OR DTC B129D:96

D1 CHECK THE DTCs FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND PAM SELF-TESTS


- Check the PAM DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests.
- Are DTCs other than B129C:96 or B129D:96 recorded?

Yes
DIAGNOSE the other DTCs first. REFER to DTC Charts. Active Park Assist

No
GO to D2.

D2 CHECK THE ACTIVE PARK ASSIST SENSOR OPERATION


NOTE: Make sure the area around the vehicle is clear of anything that can activate the active park assist sensors.

- Clean the bumper and sensors with high-pressure water.
- Carry out the azimuth system check. Refer to Azimuth System Check Active Park Assist.
- Ignition ON.
- Press the active park assist switch.
- Monitor and record the PAM distance PIDs while moving a test object into and out of the azimuth field at each of the sensors:





- Does the active park assist sensor detect the correct PID distance according to the general specifications?

Yes
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a dirty or blocked active park assist sensor.

No
GO to D3.

D3 INSTALL A KNOWN GOOD SENSOR


- Install a known good sensor for the suspect active park assist sensor.
- Ignition ON.
- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the self-test. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
GO to D4.

No
INSTALL a new active park assist sensor. REFER to Active Park Assist Sensor Active Park Assist Sensor. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

D4 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION


- Disconnect the PAM connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the PAM connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to Collision Avoidance and Parking Assist Systems. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
